A home and auto bundle in California is two policies written by one company for the same household. The house contract and the auto contract stay separate. Call 209-670-1556. Se habla español.
You bundle by asking one company to write a homeowners policy and an auto policy for the same household. The two contracts stay separate, each with its own declarations page, limits, and deductible. We start from the dec pages you have, or from the house and the vehicles if both are new. The quote button on this page opens that combined path.
Definition. A bundle is an account, not a merged contract. The homeowners policy still describes the dwelling, other structures, personal property, loss of use, and liability at the house. The auto policy still describes each vehicle, each driver, liability, and the physical-damage choices on that car. A claim on the roof does not get paid by the auto policy. A claim on the car does not get paid by the homeowners policy. What changes, when a company accepts both, is who you call for the two renewals and which declarations pages sit in the same file.
The household can be a house you own, a condo unit, or an apartment you rent. A renters policy is not a homeowners policy, and a condo HO-6 is not an HO-3. Both can still be quoted next to the cars. If the dwelling is a new purchase, the lender's closing instructions belong on the escrow and closing page, not in this bundle note. Send the close date either way so the homeowners effective date matches the funding date.
This page does not state a dollar amount or a percentage. Whether one company will write the house and the cars is an underwriting result for that house, those drivers, and those vehicles. The premium is the number on the declarations pages after the quote. Keeping the home policy at one company and the auto policy at another is a normal California file.
People ask the price question because a single bill looks simpler. Simpler is not a number. One company may decline the house and still write the cars. Another may write the house and decline a driver. The honest comparison is the two quotes side by side: both policies at company A, or the home at company A and the auto at company B. We print neither premium here. You read them on the declarations pages we send after the file is rated.
Do not treat a slogan on a billboard as the quote. California auto rating has a statute behind it, and the homeowners policy is underwritten on the building. Those are different jobs. A household that already has a non-renewal on the house should read the non-renewal guide before assuming the same company will add the cars.
A home and car insurance bundle in California is a homeowners, renters, or condo policy and an auto policy placed with one company when that company will accept both. Auto premiums in this state follow three mandatory factors in Insurance Code section 1861.02: driving safety record, annual miles, and years of driving experience, in that order. Other factors exist only if the commissioner adopts them by regulation.
Insurance Code section 1861.02(a) says rates and premiums for an automobile insurance policy shall be determined by application of the following factors in decreasing order of importance: the insured's driving safety record; the number of miles he or she drives annually; the number of years of driving experience the insured has; and other factors the commissioner may adopt by regulation that have a substantial relationship to the risk of loss. The same subdivision says the use of any criterion without approval is unfair discrimination. This page names the three mandatory factors and stops. It does not list optional factors, and it does not say that placing the house and the cars together changes the auto rate.
The homeowners side is a property underwriting file: address, year built, square feet, roof, claims, and the wildfire and flood questions on the Natural Hazard Disclosure if you are buying. Those facts do not replace the auto factors. A clean driving record does not repair an old roof. A new roof does not change the miles on the odometer. We quote them together so you can see one account when a company allows it, and two accounts when it does not.
A bundle fits when one company will write the dwelling and the cars together. Separate policies fit when it will not. A FAIR Plan dwelling, a condo unit, or a renters policy often stays on its own contract beside an auto policy at another company. An umbrella is a third policy. It does not replace home or auto.
The California FAIR Plan guide and the FAIR Plan and DIC page explain the dwelling when admitted companies decline the house. This page does not repeat them. The auto policy can still be written while the dwelling is on the FAIR Plan. A condo unit follows the HO-6 condo page. A renter follows the California renters page. In each of those files the cars may match the property company, or they may not. We show you which way the companies answered.
| One company writes both | Two companies, two policies | |
|---|---|---|
| What you hold | A homeowners, renters, or condo policy and an auto policy on one account | The property policy at one company and the auto policy at another |
| Renewal | One month to watch for both contracts | Two renewal dates, and two bills |
| A loss | The company that wrote the policy that applies handles that claim | Each company handles only the policy it wrote |
| FAIR Plan house | Only if that auto company also accepts the FAIR Plan dwelling arrangement you have | The usual file: FAIR Plan on the dwelling, auto written on its own |
| Umbrella | A separate policy that lists the liability limits under it | The same separate policy. It does not merge the two companies into one |
Read the umbrella glossary and the personal umbrella page before you add that third contract. An umbrella sits above the auto liability and the home liability it schedules. It does not pay for the roof, and it does not pay to repair the car. If the underlying limits are short of what the umbrella requires, the umbrella quote waits until those limits are raised. We check that on the dec pages. We do not guess.
Send the house facts and the vehicle facts in one note. We need the address, year built, square feet, and roof age, plus each driver, each VIN, and the miles driven in a year. A renewal date or a closing date tells us which policy has to be in force first. Insurance City Agency, LLC, CA Lic #6003045, calls back at 209-670-1556.
No premium and no percentage on this page. The declarations pages after the quote are the numbers. The only phone number is 209-670-1556.
